Why your files never get uploaded

Most online PDF tools send your document to a server, process it there, and ask you to trust that it gets deleted. We took a different approach.

Processed on your own machine

43 of our tools use WebAssembly to do the work inside your browser tab. Your document is read from your disk into your own memory and never touches the network. You can disconnect from the internet and they still work.

No queues, no size caps

Because there is no server doing the work, there is nothing to queue behind and no upload to wait for. A 300 MB file processes as fast as your own hardware allows, and we never ask you to upgrade to handle it.

Free, with no account

No sign-up wall, no watermark stamped on your output, no daily task limit. The site is supported by advertising, which means the tools themselves can stay open to everyone.

Working with PDFs without giving up your privacy

The PDF format was designed in the early 1990s to solve a specific problem: making a document look identical no matter which computer opened it. That reliability is exactly why it became the default for contracts, invoices, academic papers and government forms — and also why it is so awkward to change once created. A PDF describes where every glyph sits on a page rather than storing a flowing document, which is why editing one has always felt harder than editing a word processor file.

For years the practical answer was to upload your file to a website, let a server rewrite it, and download the result. That works, but it means handing a copy of your document — possibly a signed contract, a medical record, or a bank statement — to a company you have no relationship with. Most services promise to delete files after an hour. You have no way to verify that promise.

What changed

Browsers became genuinely powerful. WebAssembly lets us run compiled code at close to native speed inside a tab, and modern JavaScript engines can manipulate binary file structures directly. The practical result is that the same operations that used to need a server — rewriting a page tree, re-encoding an image, encrypting a document — can now run on the machine already sitting in front of you.

That is the approach we took. When you drop a file onto one of our browser-based tools, it is read straight into your tab's memory. There is no upload progress bar because there is no upload. If you open your browser's network inspector while a tool runs, you will see no file leaving your device. When you close the tab, the document is gone from memory entirely.

When a server is still involved

We would rather be honest than absolute. A small number of tools genuinely need help from a server — translating a document requires a language model, and converting a live web page to PDF requires fetching that page from an address your browser cannot reach directly because of cross-origin rules. Those tools are clearly marked, and every tool page tells you plainly which category it falls into before you upload anything.

Choosing the right tool

If you are combining documents, start with Merge PDF. If a file is too large to email, Compress PDF will usually get it under the limit by resampling the images inside it, which is where nearly all the weight in a typical PDF lives. If you have a scan you cannot search, OCR PDF will recognise the text and layer it invisibly over the original image so the page still looks the same but becomes selectable. And if you need to remove sensitive details before sharing, use Redact PDF rather than drawing a black box in an editor — a drawn rectangle sits on top of the text, and the words underneath can still be copied out.
